Watch These Next

I love film almost as much as I love reading. Here is what I have been watching lately— old and new, but mostly new.

  1. Free Solo: I watched this documentary on one of my planes rides this summer, and boy was it a bad idea. Something about being in the air while watching a man climb with nothing to help him, really makes you break out in a sweat. But it is incredible to witness someone with no relationship with fear or doubt. The living epitome of someone who lives their life on the edge. Professional rock climber Alex Honnold attempts to conquer the first free solo climb of famed El Capitan's 900-meter vertical rock face at Yosemite National Park.

  2. The Dead Don't Die: I had so much fun while watching this movie in part because the cast is incredible. Jim Jarmusch really outdid himself with this “painfully ironic, agonizingly hip anti-thriller.” If you love zombies, Lucas Sabat, Adam Driver, and of course Sturgill Simpson, please watch!

  3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: This man is a genius in every sense of the word. This film is just purely good in the way you know a Tarantino film can be. Full of artistry, movie lore, and history, DiCaprio and Pitts's performances were stellar. If you have 3 hours to spare, I promise it is worth your time.

  4. The Farewell: Awkwafina shines in this complicated drama by Lulu Wang. A story of love, family, tradition, and one that made me weirdly nostalgic for my time in China, it opened me up to an intimate family dynamic. I am starting to learn that A24 films never disappoint, and this one is no exception. A real delight to watch and I totally recommend it!
