The Urgent Need for Compassion

right here, right now

If you haven’t listened to the Man Enough Podcast, I highly encourage you to do so. Here is a description of the show:

“What does it mean to be a man, or really a human, in the world today?

We’re changing that together. You have the ability to change it with us.

If you’re interested in deepening your connection with yourself and others, evolving your understanding of the impacts of traditional masculinity on all people, and being reminded that you are enough, this is the podcast for you.

We go deep and it gets real, and it’s all so beautiful, even the messy, uncomfortable parts
…maybe especially those parts.”

I truly don’t know how I came across the show, or even why I continue to listen—but I had the accidental pleasure to stumble upon the wisdom of ALOK Vaid-Menon.

If you don’t listen to anything else today— please let it be this.

They discuss the urgent need for compassion in today’s increasingly violent world and make the incredible argument (more like undeniable fact) for why trans and non-binary people need to be at the forefront of our activism, our revolutions, and our world-building projects.

“Do you know who you are outside of who you have been told you should be? Acclaimed gender non-conforming writer, performer, and speaker, ALOK, shares their story, and the stories of those who came before them, with an urgency that invites us to step into our power and the power of interdependence. As the creator of the growing movement to degender fashion, ALOK is helping others move beyond the binary into full expression. In a conversation filled with wisdom, historical insight, and radical mercy, ALOK challenges us to value compassion over comprehension, to try harder for each other in the name of love, and reminds us that learning is a sign of being alive.”

happy listening!
